The Wisconsin Naming Gift was featured as the lead business education story in the Financial Times. The article, “Alumni pay a debt of gratitude,” discussed the proliferation of donations to business schools in recent years.
Sky Vegetables took home the top prize in the G. Steven Burrill Business Plan Competition. The company plans to build and operate commercial greenhouses on the roofs of grocery stores and supermarkets to cut down travel time and costs of produce. The story was covered in several national and local news outlets, including the Chronicle for Higher Education (subscription required), Fresh Plaza (The Netherlands) national blogs (matternetwork.com, cookingupastory.com), the Capital Times, the Wisconsin State Journal and the Daily Cardinal.

Assistant Professor Morris Davis, Real Estate, was quoted in the NPR Marketplace story, “Will the Fed cut rates again?” Davis felt that the Fed would not raise interest rates for at least six months.

The Global Economics Conference, sponsored by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), was discussed in the Wisbusiness.com article, “UW-Madison biz school dean raps McCain gas plan.” Dean Michael Knetter. spoke about the international trade deficit and high cost of energy.
Dean Michael Knetter was quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article, “Will it work?” The article discussed President Bush’s stimulus plan.
The Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance and Investment Banking and Professor Jim Seward were featured in the Wisbusiness.com article, “Bridging theory, reality of high-stakes corporate finance.” The article highlighted the Nicholas Center’s hands-on approach to applied learning. The article also appeared on the front page of Wisconsin Week.

Professor Randall Dunham, Management and Human Resources, was quoted in the Wisconsin State Journal article, “Volunteer work gets employer support.” The article discussed Physicians Plus Insurance Corp., which allows its employees to do volunteer work on company time.
The Wisconsin State Journal quoted Steve Schroeder, director of the Business Career Center, in the Wisconsin State Journal article, “Jobs aplenty.” He also was interviewed by WISC-TV and Channel 3000.com. on job prospects for May graduates.
