Laptop Computer Requirement
for Students Entering Fall
2007
General Information
Students who are enrolled for the MBA with a career specialization in the ASAP will be required to pay a fee for a specific laptop computer and software bundle through the School of Business TSC. This laptop computer and software bundle will provide students with the necessary tools to participate in Finance Department courses during the first year and in ASAP during the second year. Each laptop computer will be configured with a required hardware and software bundle that will work efficiently within the technological and academic environment supported by the School of Business Technology Support Center (TSC).
A standard hardware and software configuration makes it possible for the TSC to provide a high level of support for the laptop computers that are distributed through the required program. The hardware configuration includes integrated wireless for access to the internet in both the ASAP Hawk Center and for classroom access during specific finance lectures. A 3-year warranty and protection plan (1-year warranty for the battery) is also included with the required hardware and software bundle.

You must submit an on-line MasterCard or Visa payment for the laptop computer
requirement by Friday, August 10, 2007.

Specification
A Lenovo ThinkPad T61 (7659-XAU) will be provided
for this required laptop computer program.

- Windows XP operating system will be installed
Only Windows XP will be supported by the School of Business TSC during this requirement.
(A Windows Vista Business license is included for later upgrade.) - WXGA+ wide-screen display
- 120 GB hard drive
- 802.11 a/b/g wireless for internet access

- 3-year ThinkPad Protection plan

These accessories are available for optional direct purchase from CDW-G at a website dedicated for this program. Also, the required laptop computer bundle comes with a standard battery (4-cell). However, some students may wish to purchase an additional enhanced battery (6-cell) or high capacity battery (7-cell) for extended battery time in classrooms where power outlets are not convenient. Warranty
The required ThinkPad laptop computer configuration includes a 3-year
warranty on manufacturer defects
(1-year warranty for battery), plus
a ThinkPad Protection plan that helps to reduce unexpected repair or
replacement costs due to unforeseen occurrences of unintentional damage to
your ThinkPad caused by accidents. The School of Business TSC will participate in the ThinkPad Warranty Self-Maintainer
program, so TSC employees will be certified to perform on-site warranty
maintenance on your laptop computer with the shortest possible turn-around
time.
During the summer between the first and second year, ASAP students may
receive worldwide ThinkPad service directly from Lenovo, especially during
internships away from Madison, Wisconsin. After graduation, the third year
of the ThinkPad Protection will also be provided directly by
Lenovo.
