Advanced Courses
The second part of the curriculum provides an opportunity to delve deeper into the subject matter of the major functional areas. These courses develop greater expertise and deliver more emerging content in the area through heightened attention to recent theoretical and practical developments. This advanced attention across the major functional areas is a critical element of the general management focus of this program. Because of their advanced and topical nature, the actual courses taught in this part of the curriculum vary from year to year more than do the courses in the core. Recent examples of advanced courses include:
- Service Operations
- Product and Price Management
- Analysis of Financial Reports
- Investment Theory and Practice
- Management Planning and Strategy
- Risk Management
A final remark about the curriculum. It is not delivered in a vacuum. The collective experiences of you and your classmates offer a valuable perspective on virtually every topic in the program. These experiences allow a critical evaluation and a practical consideration of important content. Many classes are structured to allow the productive exchange of theory and experience.
A major strength of the program is the quality of your classmates. There is a common language used by those in management. The experiences of one person in his or her position and industry usually translate and have meaning to others in different fields. This means that the diversity of the student body contributes to a diverse but relevant classroom experience in which topics are discussed and tested and studied from many perspectives and viewpoints.
