Naming Gift Preserves Wisconsin Name

In October, I was pleased to announce on behalf of the Wisconsin School of Business an $85 million naming gift from a small group of alumni known as the Wisconsin Naming Partnership. Rather than name our school after a single donor in perpetuity, this innovative gift will preserve the Wisconsin name for 20 years. It preserves the option for a future naming gift, preserves the Wisconsin brand, and builds the team that is backing the school.

About $70 million of the gift is unrestricted in use. Like most unrestricted funds received by the school, these funds will primarily be used to support faculty and staff, enabling us to retain our best people and add more outstanding talent to our team. This will enable us to grow the quality and quantity of the business education and experience we provide to constituents in all of our program areas.

The Wisconsin brand is built on core values of leadership, innovation, community, and connection, each of which is reflected in this unique gift. This naming gift, the largest gift ever given to UW-Madison, reflects the effort of many individuals—not only our generous alumni, but the faculty, staff and students whose talent, hard work and dedication were essential in motivating these individuals to make such a tremendous investment in our school.
