Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) Programs

The CIBER network offers a variety of exciting faculty development opportunities through Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) programs. Examples include workshops that help business faculty incorporate international business concepts into their course syllabi, programs that provide strategies for foreign language educators to include business communications in their courses, and short-term international study tours to emerging market countries.

Vietnam FDIB

The University of Wisconsin and University of Hawai’i are pleased to host the Vietnam Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) January 2-14, 2010. The program will focus on the unique aspects of doing business in Vietnam, comparing and contrasting the business environments of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Hanoi. Each city will begin with background briefings from U.S. commercial attaches, followed by site visits to a range of organizations. These visits may include organizations in the manufacturing, professional services, retail, food-processing, education, healthcare, and micro-finance sectors. Ho Chi Minh City will emphasize the rapidly growing SMEs and MNE outsourcing, while Hanoi will emphasize the transition of state-owned enterprises.

Note to UW System faculty: The Wisconsin CIBER will pay the $3,000 registration costs for up to three UW System faculty to participate in this program. Participants are responsible for their own round-trip airfare between the U.S. and Vietnam and incidentals. Applications for funding are due by Monday, September 14, 2009 (9:00 a.m. CDT). To apply, please disregard the online application and send an abbreviated CV and a cover letter explaining in 200-250 words your interest in the program and how its content might benefit your courses and/or research to uwmadisonciber@bus.wisc.edu.
