Japanese for Business and Industry

James Davis, associate professor in engineering professional development, UW-Madison

This course will provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the language of the Japanese business world. Students will read and translate from Japanese into English publications written by key members of the Japanese government, industry and academia. The course will be offered in fall 2003 as part of the Master of Engineering in Technical Japanese program, the Certificate in Technical Japanese Studies for Professionals program and the Certificate in Japanese Studies for Engineering Students program.


Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP) Student Access to International Real-time Financial Data

Mark Fedenia, associate professor of finance, investment and banking, UW-Madison

One of the goals of the Applied Security Analysis Program is to expose UW-Madison students to international markets via the delivery of real-time data. In order to achieve this, ASAP must provide access to data and incorporate it into the program’s curriculum as a key research component. Fedenia’s CIBER grant will provide partial funding so that students have access to international financial data through FactSet Systems, Inc. and Yield Book software.


Televideo Connects Real Estate Courses at UW-Madison and the American University Kyrgyzstan

Rod Matthews has incorporated live televideo into his spring 2003 “Contemporary Topics” Real Estate course (RE 365). UW-Madison students have the opportunity to interact live via video with business administration students from the American University in Kyrgyzstan.


South Central Technical College Agribusiness Exchange Program with Dalum College in Denmark

Peter Neigebauer, agribusiness instructor, South Central Technical College in Mankato, Minnesota

Developing an exchange program for South Central Technical College students will better prepare them to compete with agribusinesses in markets outside the United States. Neigebauer plans to meet with Dalum College’s Director of International Programs this summer to develop curriculum for a summer 2004 exchange.


Integrating Globalization Issues into New MBA Operations Management Course

The goal of this project is to develop and integrate research and teaching materials focused on understanding and quantifying the consequences of globalization on supply chain design, operation and management. These issues will be integrated into the new fall 2004 MBA Operations Management Course (OIM 750).
