As we start a new year, businesses and consumers face uncharted economic conditions in 2009: a global financial crisis, tight credit markets, and slowing or negative GDP growth in emerging markets such as China, Brazil, and India. The new U.S. president and Congress inaugurated in January 2009 will confront immediate declines in revenue and continuing demands for relief from all sectors of the U.S. economy.

MITA’s January program features two experts who will give their views on the economic outlook for 2009, William Strauss of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and Jane Mezera of US Bank in Milwaukee. They will discuss key issues for international business professionals, including: what the U.S. and other governments are doing, how the Midwest and Wisconsin economies are faring in the face of worldwide economic turmoil, and expert projections about currency fluctuations.
