MITA Annual Holiday Meeting
Overview
This event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 9.
Jean Feraca, host of Wisconsin Public Radio’s nationally syndicated show “Hear on Earth” will share her story of the Yanamono clinic, a medical clinic in the Peruvian Amazon. The Yanamono clinic was created by the joint efforts of a Wisconsin Public Radio show host, a Wisconsin doctor (Linnea Smith), and Rotarians from Duluth, Minnesota. Their work led to the establishment of a modern medical facility in an area that had no medical services within a 25-mile radius of dense jungle. Jean cites this as one of the many ways radio can convey powerful stories that touch people and lead to positive change.
The story of the Yanamono Clinic is cited in Feraca's 2007 book “I hear Voices: A Memoir of Love, Death and the Radio” published by Terrace Books, Madison, Wisconsin. She will be happy to autograph your copy and will have some available for those who would like to read about this and other compelling stories.
Feraca’s descriptions of the tropical rain forest will be a warm counterpoint to the chill of December as we share drinks and substantial hors d’oeuvres. Registration is $35 and includes a ticket for a complimentary beverage and food. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Yanamono clinic.
