Center for Urban Land Economics Research
Focus
The general mission of the Center is to encourage research, education, and
service activity relating to real estate and urban land economics. It
brings together the human, physical, and financial resources necessary to
benefit the academic, professional, and governmental communities and the
public at large. It serves as a conduit between the Department of Real
Estate and Urban Land Economics, other departments in the School of
Business, related programs elsewhere on campus, the real estate
professional community, governmental agencies, and the public at large.
History
The Wisconsin Center for Urban Land Economics Research (CULER) has long been an
important component of the Program in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics
at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Its predecessor was the
Institute for Research in Land Economics, established by Richard T. Ely,
one of the founding fathers of the discipline, in 1920. The current Center
structure was formally established by the University in 1971. In 1992
legislation was passed which provided for the Center's current funding
base through a supplement to the state's real estate license fee.
