Case competitions are one way that the Center’s students apply the knowledge and skills they have gained through the program. Our students have had great success and a lot of fun participating in competitions around the country.
GMN Marketing Challenge
Many of the students participate in the GMN Marketing Challenge at the School of Business. Four-person teams are given a case and 48 hours to develop a case solution, then present their results in 25-minute presentations. The judges, all seasoned marketing professionals, award first and second prizes. In 2007, the first and second place teams were from the Center for Brand & Product Management.

Pac-10/Big Ten Case Competition
This prestigious case competition, held at Arizona State University, includes the top three teams from the Pac-10 and Big Ten conferences. Students use the knowledge and skills they acquire in class by developing solutions to business problems within 24 hours. During the presentations, each team takes a different approach to tackling the business challenges in the case, while experienced executives fire tough questions at them.
The UW-Madison team, with Richard Collumb of the Center for Brand & Product Management, came in 2nd in 2006.
Wake Forest MBA Marketing Summit
A team of MBA students from UW-Madison was selected to compete in the 2006 MBA Marketing Case Competition hosted by Wake Forest's MBA Marketing Summit. Four students from the Center represented UW and competed against MBA students from seven other schools, including Harvard, Northwestern, UCLA and Texas.
Jungle Business Plan Challenge
The Challenge is open to entrepreneurs from around the world. Entrants submit an original business plan. From more than 300 entries in 2005, the two-man team from the Center was selected among 32 semi-finalists. They flew to Silicon Valley to pitch their plan to a distinguished panel of leading venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. |
