BuckyNet Registration Process

  1. Attend a BCC Orientation Session
(Economics and School of Human Ecology students may attend an information session in their respective departments)
  2. Complete your BuckyNet Profile
(Personal Information, Academic Information & Registration Contract tabs)
  3. Upload aresume to BuckyNet

When you complete these step, the BCC will confirm your registration and unblock your account. This is done during business hours Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Uploading Your Resume:

Upload your resume(s) and cover letter(s) by selecting "Documents". Click on "Add New:. Browse for your resume or cover letter in your files, select it, and hit the "Submit" button. Completing this step will allow you to submit your resume to employers in order to apply for on-campus interviews or job postings.

You will not be allowed to apply for jobs until you have completed your profile and uploaded a resume on BuckyNet.

You can upload multiple resumes and cover letters. This allows you to customize your documents for specific job opportunities. If you need to edit an existing document, make all corrections on the original document (usually a MS Word document) and then re-upload to BuckyNet. If you have multiple resume versions needing edits, each one must be considered a separate document needing to be edited and then re-uploaded to BuckyNet. Each time you apply to a position, you will be prompted to choose a resume version to submit.

If you have uploaded multiple resumes, one version must be designated as your "Default Resume". This version of your resume will appear in the Web Resume Book distributed to employers.

Searching for Jobs & Internships:

Log into BuckyNet and click “Jobs.”  Three different types of positions will appear.  In the “Type” column on the right side of the screen, positions will be listed as either a Pre-select (P), Open (O), or Job Listing (J).  Below is a description of each type of position and information on how to apply for the different opportunities.

On-Campus Interviewing Opportunities
Opportunities designated as "Pre-select (P)" or "Open (O)" are on-campus interviewing opportunities. This means that the recruiting company will hold their first-round interviews in 3295 Grainger Hall in the interview rooms next to the BCC.

Pre-select (P) Opportunities
Pre-select (P) jobs require you to submit a resume through BuckyNet and wait for an invitation to interview.

It is extremely important to note the trigger dates associated with each Pre-select (P) listing. Employers may change their trigger dates during the period leading up to the interview date so be sure to check these frequently.

Resume Submission Start Date This is the fisrt day resumes can be submitted through BuckyNet to apply for the opportunity
Resume Submission End Date This is the final day resumes can be submitted. Candidates have until 11:59 p.m. on this day to submit a resume through BuckyNet
Sign-Up Start Date If selected for an interview, this is the first day to sign up for an interview through BuckyNet. Sign up begins at 12:00 a.m. (CT) on this day.
Alternate Sign-Up Start Date If selected as an alternate, this is the first day to sign up for any remaining interview slots through BuckyNet. Sign up begins at 12:00 a.m. (CT) on this day.
Open Sign-Up Start Date Any candidates who meet the employer requirements may sign up for remaining interview slots. Sign up begins at 12:00 a.m. (CT) on this day.
Sign-Up End Date This is the final day candidates can sign up for an interview, make changes to an interview time or cancel an interview.

Employers may invite more candidates to interview than the number of time slots they have available for interviewing.  Time slots are available on a first come, first served basis.  Recruiters generally try to accommodate late sign ups or changes, but you are not guaranteed an interview slot or a convenient interview time.  Contact the BCC as soon as possible if you find yourself in this situation.

Track the status of your resume submission online by monitoring your BuckyNet “Interviews” link. In “Interview Requests” (found in the “Interview” link), your status will read “Pending” until the employer makes a decision.  At 12:00 A.M. on the Sign-Up Start Date the word “Pending” will change to either “Invited”, “Alternate”, or “Not Invited”.  If you are “Invited” the employer has selected you for an interview.  A link to the timeslot selection screen will also appear allowing you to immediately pick your interview time.  If you are selected as an “Alternate” you will have the opportunity to sign up for any remaining interview slots starting at 12:00 AM on the Alternate Sign-Up Start Date.  If you are “Not Invited” you will not be able to sign up for an interview for that position.  In some cases, the position will continue listing your status as “Pending” after the designated Sign-Up Start Date.  This typically means that the employer has not invited you for an interview.  If you are uncertain of the scheduling process, please contact the BCC for clarification.

Open (O) Opportunities
Open (O) positions require no invitation to interview.  If you meet the requirements stated in the job description, there will also be interview time slots allowing you to instantly select the interview time of your choice.  If you do not meet the requirements, e-mail the recruiter for permission to sign up. The recruiter can decide whether to add you to his/her interview list. Do not submit a resume or sign up for an interview if you are not truly interested or if you are unavailable the day of the interview.

Wisconsin School of Business Job Board Listings
Job Listing (J) Opportunities
Job Listings (J) are similar to classified newspaper ads. Each employer will indicate the appropriate process for applying to his/her positions.  In some cases you will submit your resume through BuckyNet.  In other cases, you will be directed to the company website and asked to apply through their employment pages.

The recruiter will contact you after you have submitted a resume if he/she would like to arrange an interview.  The time and place of the interview is determined by you and the interviewer.

The BCC rarely has additional information concerning these postings beyond what is included in the job description that you view on BuckyNet and does not necessarily have an ongoing conversation with the employer about their recruitment process.  If you have questions about your application status or the follow-up timeframe, please e-mail the main contact whose information appears in the lower right column of the job description.

Additional Notes:

If you do not meet the requirements of a position listed on BuckyNet (Pre-select (P), Open (O), or Job Listing (J)), but are interested in applying, you may e-mail your resume to the contact listed in the lower right column of the job description screen. The recruiter makes the decision whether or not your qualifications and interest meet their job requirements. The BCC staff does not have the authority to put you on an interview schedule without permission from the recruiter.

On rare occasions, an employer may be forced to cancel scheduled interviews. The BCC will notify affected students as quickly as possible. Please be sure that the e-mail and phone number listed on your BuckyNet profile are current to reach you on short notice.
