BuckyNet Student User Guide

Questions? Contact the Business Career Center: phone (608-262-2550) or e-mail (bccenter@bus.wisc.edu)

Getting Started:

Log into BuckyNet by using the BuckyNet link found at the Business Career Center homepage at http://www.bus.wisc.edu/career/

Your username is your e-mail address you provided our office. Current students are expected to use their WiscMail account. Your password is computer generated and will be e-mailed to you when your account is created. You may change your password after your initial login by clicking on the Account tab. You may not change your username.

Complete the registration pages in the Profile section. Note that certain fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory fields. The Profile section provides the data that qualifies you for interviews or makes your resume available based on search criteria. It is essential that your profile be complete and accurate at all times. Click Save or Next (by clicking Next, your information will be automatically saved)..

Suggested settings for the Profile/Privacy screen: Choose to receive system e-mail notifications and to be included in the BCC resume book.

You may update your account information at any time by clicking on Profile on the navigation toolbar. Click SAVE or NEXT.

Uploading Your Resume:

Upload your resume and any cover letters you may have in the same manner as you would attach a file to an email (browse for where the file is saved, select it, and hit upload). This allows you to submit your resume to employers in order to apply for an interview when the company visits campus.

You will not be allowed to apply for jobs until you have a completed profile and resume uploaded in BuckyNet.

Upload additional documents to customize your resume for specific job targets at any time by clicking on Documents on the navigation toolbar.

If you need to edit an existing document, make all corrections on the original document (usually MS Word document) and then re-upload into BuckyNet. If you have multiple resume versions needing edits, each must be considered as a separate document needing to be edited and then reuploaded into BuckyNet. Each time you apply to a position, you will be prompted to choose a resume version to submit.

If you have uploaded multiple resumes, one version must be designated as your Default resume version. This version of your resume will appear in the online resume book.

Searching for Jobs & Internships:

Log into BuckyNet and click on Jobs. Three options appear in the dropdown: BuckyNet Jobs, CareerBuilder, and USAJobs. Jobs coordinated by the BCC appear under the heading CSM jobs.

BuckyNet Jobs include both On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) opportunities as well as School of Business Job Board postings.

  • OCR Jobs interviews are held in Grainger Hall and you select the time and date if multiple days through BuckyNet. OCR Jobs can either be Preselect (P) or Open (O). Preselect jobs require you to forward (Submit) a resume through BuckyNet and wait for an invitation to interview (also delivered through BuckyNet). Open positions require no invitation to interview. You may select a time to interview directly through BuckyNet. See section below about interview signup.
  • Job Board Postings (J) might be thought of as being similar to classified newspaper ads.

The Application/Signup process for candidates to follow for CSM jobs differs depending on Type of CSM Job. See above. Jobs are identified by Type as either “P”, ”O”, or “J” (Preselect, Open, or Job Posting). See Jobs tab/CSM Jobs, then see Type column. Regardless of type, your first step is to acknowledge an interest in the opportunity and a willingness to interview for the position by submitting a resume through BuckyNet. After resume submission, events unfold differently depending on Type.

Somewhat confusing in the terms used but also essential is to identify the position by Position Type (viewable in the job description). This indicates whether this is a full-time or internship opportunity.

Concerning OCR Jobs:

  • If you do not meet the requirements for an OCR preselect (P) or open (O) position but are interested in applying, you may forward your resume via fax or e-mail to the contact listed on the right hand column of the job description screen. The recruiter makes the decision whether or not your qualifications and interest meet their job requirements; the BCC staff does not have the power to put you on an interview schedule without permission from the recruiter.
  • Once you submit your resume through BuckyNet, you wait for the employer to invite you to an interview. It is not recommended that you make additional contact with the company.
  • Note in the job description that the trigger dates associated with this listing, such as the date when interview sign-ups begin, are posted for your reference. Invitations to interview are delivered to you through your BuckyNet homepage “alerts”. There is no notification if the employer does not select you. Track the status of your resume submission online by monitoring your BuckyNet Interviews/Interview Requests tab. Your status will read “Pending” until the employer makes a decision on their interview candidates (usually a week or so before the interview date). If you feel the interview date is quickly approaching and you are uncertain of the scheduling process, please contact the BCC for clarification.

Concerning Job Postings:

  • Although the initial application is made through BuckyNet, the time and place of the interview is determined by agreement between you, the applicant, and the
    interviewer.
  • The BCC rarely has additional information concerning these posting beyond what is included in the job description that you view online and does not have an ongoing conversation with the recruiter about the recruitment process.

CareerBuilder and USAJobs are nationwide job boards that have contracted with Symplicity to make their opportunities available to you. The BCC has set filters on these job boards so that a subset is made available through BuckyNet to include career opportunities related to business majors. The BCC has no relationship with these postings and their related recruiters.

You may also find it useful to search by using the Calendar on the navigation toolbar. This option will show you jobs with their associated deadlines and events, such as information sessions. There is a direct link on the page to further information.

When you click Search, a page of job titles will be returned matching your search criteria. Click on each job title link to review the job description and requirements, including the interview date if an OCR job [(P) or (O)]. Do not submit a resume if you are not truly interested or if you are unavailable the day of the interview.

Signing Up for an Interview:

Signup for both OCR Preselect and open schedules is done through BuckyNet.

  • Preselect – You will receive an invitation through BuckyNet on your homepage in the alerts section. It will include a link to the timeslot selection screen.
  • Open – If you meet the stated criteria contained in the job description, there will also be a link to the timeslot selection screens. If you do not meet the criteria, contact the recruiter for permission to signup. The recruiter can add you to his invite list or can contact the BCC staff to assist with this task.

In general you may change your interview time online up to four days prior to the interview date. Note the deadline for making changes to your interview time or cancelling your interview in the trigger dates shown in the job description. Click on the Interviews tab on the navigation toolbar, find the interview you wish to change and click reschedule. Select a new time from the available options.

Students requesting that interviews be cancelled or changed after the specified sign-up period are required to complete a Failure to Interview Report form. Access to BuckyNet will be blocked until you do so and a determination is made on your interview status. The Failure to Interview Report form is available in the BCC or online at www.bus.wisc.edu/career/student/forms.

Employers may invite more candidates to interview than time slots reserved for interviewing. Time slots are available on first come, first served basis. Recruiters generally try to accommodate late signups or changes, but you are not guaranteed a convenient time or even a available time slot. Contact the BCC as soon as possible if you find yourself in this situation.

*BCC Policy on No Shows:
Once the sign-up deadline has passed, you are expected to contact the BCC if you cannot make it to the interview. Even in cases of an emergency (illness, accident, death in the family, etc.) you or your designee are expected to notify the BCC. The BCC will notify the interviewer. If you fail to report to an interview, you are considered a "No Show" and your access to BuckyNet will be blocked until you meet with a BCC staff member and a determination is made on whether or not you will be reinstated. You will also be required to
complete a Failure to Interview Report form which is available in the BCC or online at www.bus.wisc.edu/career/student/forms.

Additional Notes:

Resume and cover letter review drop off service is available to Business Undergrads, MAcc students, and selected Business masters served by the BCC. Drop off your resume or cover letter at our front counter anytime during office hours. It will be reviewed and available for pick-up some time the next business day.

On rare occasions, an employer may be forced to cancel scheduled interviews. Our office will notify affected students as quickly as possible. Please be sure that the e-mail and phone number listed in your student profile are current and pertinent to reach you on short notice.
