Staff Backgrounds

Judy Cary - Director
Judy has worked in the School of Business for twenty years in the Business Learning Center and the Business Career Center. With a Master's degree in Education, UW-Madison, Judy works with students on study skills focusing on increasing their reading rate and comprehension.

Shelby Eckenrod – Administrative Assistant
Shelby is a third year PEOPLE scholar, planning to graduate from the School of Business, majoring in Accounting and International Business.  Shelby will be studying abroad in Germany for spring 2008.

Chor Vang – Administrative Assistant
Chor, also a third year PEOPLE scholar, will be helping the BLC staff.  He is planning to graduate from the School of Business.

Lauren Krieg – AIS 100
Lauren Krieg is a fifth year student in the Masters of Accountancy program.  She will begin her career in public accounting next fall at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Milwaukee.  This semester, Lauren will be working with students enrolled in Accounting 100 and loving it.

Ryan Lovell – AIS 100
Born and raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Ryan is currently in the 5th year of the Master of Accountancy Program.  He enjoys running and playing golf in his free time.

Jake Maliel – AIS 100
Jake Maliel is a 2nd Year MBA student specializing in Real Estate Finance.  Prior to graduate school, Jake worked in the audit practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where his main clients were Honeywell International and Major League Baseball.  This past summer, Jake interned in the Real Estate group at Bank of America’s global headquarters in Charlotte, NC.  Jake is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as recognized by the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy. 

Pete McGraw – AIS 100
"Pete McGraw is a fifth year Accounting student in the Masters of Accountancy (MAcc) program.  He is originally from Dodgeville, WI.  He enjoys watching and playing sports, especially baseball and golf.  Pete plans to begin his career working for Ernst & Young in Chicago starting in September of 2008.

Megan Sabel – AIS 100
Megan is a graduate student in the Masters of Accountancy program. She will begin working as an auditor with the Milwaukee branch of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in fall 2008.  She enjoys running, biking, cooking, camping, and traveling in her spare time. 

Andrey Kutuzov – AIS 211
Andrey completed a BBA and a Masters of Accountancy at the University of Wisconsin-
Madison, where he also taught an undergraduate accounting (AIS211) class while working on his Masters. He joined the Deloitte office in Chicago, specializing on audits of leading companies in Banking and Investment Management. After his first year in the MBA program, Andrey interned as an international equity research analyst at Wasatch Advisors.  Andrey holds a CPA license in the state of Illinois and has passed two levels of the CFA exam.

Brian Pierce – AIS 301
Brian is a graduate student in the Masters of Accountancy program and upon graduation in May 2008 will be working at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Milwaukee.  In addition to his work in the BLC with students enrolled in AIS 301, Brian is teaching a section of Accounting 100.  He is originally from New Berlin, WI (near Milwaukee).  His interests include sports, watching television, listening to music, and reading.

Shi Duanmu – Microeconomics 101
Shi (Tim) is a second year MBA student in Nicholas Center for Applied Corporate Finance. I got my Bachelor of Economics degree majoring in Finance from Sun Yat-sen University in his home country, China. Before he joined the MBA program, Shi worked as an auditor in an international accounting firm. He likes sports, traveling and music.

Eugene Yang – Microeconomics 101
Eugene Yang is in the fourth year of a four year joint MBA/JD program at the University of Wisconsin Madison.  He also has an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Chicago.  Having tutored in the past, Eugene is looking forward to supporting the Introduction to Microeconomics course for the Business Learning Center.

Wei Zhang – Microeconomics 101
Wei Zhang is a PHD candidate in Economics, her main interests being microeconomic theory and game theory. She has teaching assistantship experience with the Economics Dept. ranging from Econ101 to graduate level courses. She will be working with Econ 101 students.

Hugette Sun – Macroeconomics 102
Hugette is a PhD candidate in Economics, specializing in Public Economics. She received undergraduate degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. After both being a TA and tutoring students in Econ 102 in the past, she is looking forward to supporting the class for the Business Learning Center.

Francesca Rondina – Macroeconomics 102
Francesca is a PhD candidate in Economics whose research focuses on Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy.  She has experience as teaching assistant in Econ 102 and as lecturer in Econometrics.  Francesca will be working with Macroeconomics 102 students.

Wei Guo – Finance 300
Wei is a second year MBA student in the Applied Security Analysis Program. He held a master degree of Economics and has six years of working experience in the investment management industry. Last semester Wei supported OTM732—Economics for Managers-- in the Business Learning Center. He will be working with students from Economics 101 this semester.

Karl Poehls – Finance 300
Karl joins the Applied Security Analysis Program after working for two and a half years with Smith Barney, Citigroup Global Markets Inc. At Smith Barney, Karl gained experience working with both high net worth families and institutional clients.  He assisted his team with the portfolio management of approximately $300 million in client assets.  Karl researched various investment opportunities, managed portfolio cash flows, implemented investment policy statements, and made investment proposals to the lead advisor.  During his employment, Karl passed Level II and III of the CFA examinations and his charter is pending the required work experience.

Prior to working at Smith Barney, Karl graduated with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a minor in Accounting.

Sameer Balgi – Finance 700
Originally from India, Sameer completed his Masters in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. He worked as a software developer in Christensen Associates, an engineering and economic consulting firm, in Madison for 5 years. Here, he had the good fortune of working with some of the most intelligent minds in the field of engineering. Sameer joined the ACFIN program in 2006 to venture into the exciting world of Corporate Finance. Besides working on valuations, he loves travelling, is a big tennis enthusiast and enjoys playing chess. Feel free to reach him at balgi@wisc.edu for any Finance 700 questions.

Paul Wirth – Finance 700
With a BS in applied math and an MS in actuarial science from UW, Paul spent 11 years working as an actuary for AIG American General, achieving the designation of Associate of the Society of Actuaries.  He also achieved the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster in Toastmasters International and was President of his church congregation for two terms.

Ce (Karen) Xiong – Business Statistics
Ce (Karen) Xiong is a second year master student in actuarial science. She also has a master degree in computer science. Before joining The Business Learning Center, she worked as a TA in computer science department of UW-Madison and held internship at Life Investors Insurance Company of America.  Karen will be working with Statistics GB 303 students during 2007 fall semester.

Andrea Atehortua– Math 210
Andrea is a second year MBA student in the Applied Corporate Finance program. She holds a mathematics bachelor degree from Los Andes University in her home country Colombia. Before joining The Business Learning Center, she worked in AERCOL, an airline service provider in Colombia, for 5 years. This summer she interned in Oakwood Village, a retirement community in Madison, as a consultant. She will be working with Math 210 students.

John McBride – Math 210
John is a second year MBA student in the information systems program.   He has degrees in Actuarial Science and Economics from UW- Milwaukee.   Prior to returning to school John spent 2 years in Brookfield working as an actuarial analyst for Milliman.
