Master's in Actuarial Science Program (MS)

The master's degree (MS) in Actuarial Science at the Wisconsin School of Business consists of completion of 30 advanced credits to prepare students for their career as an actuary.

Students accepted into the MS program will typically have passed one or two actuarial exams prior to starting the program or will have taken coursework that allows them to sit for their first actuarial exam as they start the program.

As a part of one of the most respected actuarial science programs in the country, students pursuing their MS degree in actuarial science receive all of the great benefits as students pursuing their undergraduate degree. Master's students prepare for the Actuarial Exams and take courses that satisfy their Validation by Educational Experience requirements.

Students in our master's program also receive additional benefits. To fulfill their degree requirements, MS students have an opportunity to take advanced courses in other related subjects such as finance and risk management from highly respected faculty at UW-Madison.

MS students also have dedicated work space Grainger Hall, the home of the Wisconsin School of Business. Students can use this space for preparing for class, completing computer-based projects or studying for exams. Furthermore, students are assigned a department faculty member advisor who supports and guides them during their tenure at the Wisconsin School of Business.

For more information about admissions for the MS program, please first visit the Specialized Master's Degree and the Frequently Asked Questions pages at the Wisconsin School of Business.  If you have questions that are not answered by these sources, you can address them to either Belle Heberling, the MS coordinator or to Kirk Peter of the actuarial science department.
