- 34 students participate in a unique one-week course on land use and real estate issues in the $800-million Bay Harbor project, in Petoskey, Mich.
- Harvard and the University of Wisconsin tie for having the largest number of chief executive officers of companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index according to Bloomberg Markets magazine.
- Executive Education launches the Center for Leadership and Applied Business (LAB) to help companies identify and develop high-potential candidates for senior leadership positions.
- U.S. News and World Report ranks the undergraduate business program 12th in the nation.
- An innovative Wisconsin MBA curriculum, built around highly focused career specializations, enrolls its first class.
- More than 120 alumni and friends of the A.C. Nielsen Center for Marketing Research attend its first-ever Marketing Research Summit.
- The Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance (ACFIN) hosts a grand opening of new facilities in Grainger Hall.
- The Fluno Center for Executive Education’s John J. and Anne W. Oros Dining Room and Kenneth B. Wackman Courtyard are dedicated.
- A top General Mills executive, Jeffrey Rotsch, MBA ’74, receives the Distinguished Business Alumnus award in Minneapolis.
- UPDATE, the alumni magazine of the School of Business, is honored by the Public Relations Society of America’s Madison chapter for a redesign based on alumni input.
- The Applied Security Analysis Program (ASAP) celebrates its 35th anniversary with a conference and reunion attended by more than 150 alumni and students.
- The National Rural Electric Co-operative Association (NRECA) selects UW-Madison as the new home for its education and training programs.
- Corporate governance issues are explored at the Directors’ SummitTM, a two-day Executive Education conference. John Reed, then chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, keynotes.
- A Board of Advisors for Wisconsin Business Alumni is formed to help develop a five-year strategic plan for the business school’s alumni relations.
- An online Wisconsin Business Alumni Job Board is launched, allowing
employers and third-party firms to post openings of interest to alumni.
- The School of Business cosponsors a campus-wide discussion on building the UW-Madison brand.
- Neil and Jessica Peters-Michaud, who launched their information technology recycling business as Neil earned his MBA from the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship, give $100,000 to support women in entrepreneurship.
- For the second time in three years, accounting students win PricewaterhouseCoopers xTAX competition.
- The UW-Madison Center for International Business Education
and Research (CIBER) hosts an inaugural MBA International Business Case Competition, with teams from around the globe competing.
- The president and CEO of Japan’s Toshiba Corporation, Tadashi Okamura, MBA ’73, receives the Distinguished Business Alumnus Award in Tokyo.
- Two students in risk management receive $10,000 scholarships
from the Risk Management and Insurance Society (RMIS).
- Executive Education makes the Financial Times’ annual list of the world’s top executive education providers for the fourth consecutive year and the Fluno Center is ranked #1 in the world for food and accommodations for the second consecutive year.
- Five Wisconsin MBA students attended a four-day orientation program in Philadelphia through the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, an alliance of leading American business
schools and top corporations working to enhance diversity in business education.
