Mission Statement: Empower students, alumni and faculty interested in business skills or careers to connect with each other, recognize each other, share information and collaborate.
The purpose of the UBLC is to help students, alumni and faculty interested in business skills or careers to connect with each other, recognize each other, share information and collaborate as best meets their individual needs. We recognize SoB student organizations, organize collaborative activities among them, and provide information exchange systems and systems to govern resources they share, including social, technological, physical, human and financial resources of the SoB.
Expectations of School of Business Student Organizations
In December 2004 UBLC passed a motion detailing requirements that each recognized School of Business undergraduate student organization must meet. The requirements are relatively simple to meet and most organizations will meet them without any extra effort. If you have any questions about the requirements just ask!
Requirements of student organizations
Occasionally, there is interested amongst students to start a new School of Business student organization. Students who are interested in starting a new group should talk with Shannon Elliott, Coordinator for Student Organizations. New groups are required to meet certain guidelines (listed below) and be approved by the UBLC.
Here are some recommendations when considering starting a new group:
- Is the group a good fit for sponsorship by the Business School or would it be better in a different school/college? Student organizations do not need to be sponsored by a department (in fact, most aren't). Visit the UW Student Organization Office website for more information.
- Can the mission be achieved by joining with a current Business School organization? If so, contact them and see if they would be interested in including a new initiative as part of their organization.
- Talk with UBLC Presidents, Joe and Matt, or one of our ALC student directors for help with the two above questions or for general guidance regarding a new student organization.
