The Nicholas Center which was formerly known as the Applied Corporate Finance (ACFIN) program was established in 1999. Since its inception, students admitted to the program have worked on corporate finance engagements for a variety of public and private, mature and start-up, financial and non-financial companies.  In 2003 Albert “Ab” Nicholas, a School of Business alumnus made a $6.4 million gift to benefit ACFIN.  Also in 2003, an anonymous donor added $2 million to accelerate advancement of the ACFIN program.

Nicholas Center Celebrates Grand Opening

The Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance and Investment Banking celebrated its grand opening. The expansion of the Nichola Center into its new facilities was made possible by a $6.4 million gift from Milwaukee financier and University of Wisconsin-Madison Business School graduate Albert “Ab” Nicholas. To the audience of Nicholas students, alumni, and the External Board of Advisors, University of Wisconsin Chancellor John Wiley and Business School Dean Knetter thanked Ab and Nancy Nicholas for their generous gift. “Ab Nicholas’ gift will enable the Nicholas Center to function at the highest level of professional education,” said Dean Michael Knetter. “We are extremely pleased that he has chosen to endow this center.”

The new center includes a significantly expanded research and meeting area, high-speed information technology and communications infrastructure, and enhanced database capabilities that assist faculty, students and industry partners to thoroughly address challenging projects in the area of corporate finance.

Other events surrounding the grand opening included student mock interviews conducted by Nicholas Center Board members and alumni, company information sessions, the bi-annual Nicholas Center External Board of Advisors meeting and a golf fund-raiser.
