Strategic Details
The Strategic Plan of the Department of Accounting & Information Systems consists of five areas of focus:
-
People To provide adequate support for recruiting and retaining faculty, academic staff and graduate students, including individuals from diverse backgrounds, capable of contributing to the Department's research, teaching and service missions.
-
Research To foster an active research community, particularly through research workshops, where faculty, academic staff and graduate students freely and readily exchange ideas in the generation of new knowledge.
-
Instruction To continually evaluate and improve curriculum design and course delivery in the light of ongoing technological and professional change, with particular emphasis on opportunities to integrate coursework in accounting and related disciplines.
-
External Relations To build and maintain strong relationships with alumni, external donors, and current and prospective students and continually expand employment opportunities for departmental program graduates.
-
Internal Operations To streamline faculty governance (committee structures) within the Department and develop efficiency and transparency in the allocation of resources to foster full faculty productivity and camaraderie.
The Strategic Planning Process
The continued suitability of articulated strategic plans and the success of departmental efforts in achieving these plans are evaluated in annual departmental faculty discussions each fall and in semi-annual meetings of our (External) Advisory Board, which consists of top professional accounting personnel in organizations with substantial history in hiring our program graduates and alumni with demonstrated sustained interest in Departmental success.
