Class of 1941

  • Charles K. Anderson, Colonel, USAF (Retired) currently resides in Melbourne, Fla., in an assisted living facility. Although from Wisconsin, Charles spent three years on and off as an accountant for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y. after graduation, World War II interrupted his career and led him into other fields. Charles has his M.S. in Meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1953) and his PhD in Astrogeophysics from the University of Colorado (1965). He visited Wisconsin this summer for his 70th Baraboo High School (Class of 1937) reunion with his sister, Barbara (Anderson) Prechter, also a UW-Madison accounting graduate (1945).

Class of 1942

  • Bill Muenster currently resides in Evanston, Ill., and has been retired for 20 years. He does pro bono tax work for other seniors. Bill swerved away from accounting into marketing after getting an MBA and did marketing research at ACNielsen.

Class of 1949

  • Bernard D. (“Bernie”) Goldstein was recently awarded a Life Membership in the Tennessee Society of CPAs in honor of his continuous dedicated service to the Society. Bernie is the senior member – and a past chairman – of the Federal Tax Liaison Committee and a member of the governing council. He is also a past president of the Nashville Chapter and served a three-year term on the Society’s Board of Directors.

Class of 1967

  • Howard L. Carver has been elected to Bradley University’s distinguished alumni group, the Centurion Society, and was inducted in ceremonies on September 26 and 27, 2007.
  • Carl Mianecke has opened a boutique real estate brokerage firm in Napa, Calif. TURNKEY REALTY of Napa specializes in meeting real estate transaction needs for buyers and sellers of commercial, residential, investment and vacation properties in the Napa Valley.

Class of 1968

  • G. Michael Horn has become vice president and corporate controller of The Marmon Group, LLC, a company controlled by the Pritzker family in Chicago, and has recently been appointed as a board member of S&C Electric Company.

Class of 1969

  • Raymond (Ray) C. Groth attended the Law School of Yale University after graduation from UW and practiced law with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, N.Y., for several years. He then was in investment banking in New York and Charlotte for a couple of decades. Currently, Ray teaches a course in mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance and bankruptcy at Duke University to MBA and law students. He also sits on boards of public corporations and on several non-profit groups, including the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. The rest of his time is consumed by children and grandchildren.

Class of 1970

  • Bruce H. Cohen recently reunited with a fellow School of Business attendee, Ray Lafrance, who he recently met at an alumni function. They had an accounting class together in 1968-1969.

Class of 1971

  • Blake Devitt retired effective in 2005 as an audit partner from Ernst &Young after a 34-year career in Indianapolis and New York City. Subsequently, he has joined the Board of Directors of Baxter International and United Student Aid Funds, Inc.

 

Class of 1972

  • Tom Tierney currently serves as a faculty member in the Department. He received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence for 2006- 2007 given by the Beta Gamma Sigma Alpha Chapter, UW-Madison.
  • Carl L. Zaar is a corporate internal audit manager for Marcus Corporation in Milwaukee. He has had his CPA since 1975. Carl lives in Franklin, Wis. Over the last 30 years, Carl has been on numerous not-for-profit boards serving the Greater Milwaukee Community.
  • Steve Dilley is a professor of accounting in the Michigan State University Department of Accounting and Information Systems. He started at MSU in 1972 after receiving his PhD from UW-Madison. Steve received the Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from his department for the 2006-2007 academic year. He teaches introductory tax and tax research.
  • Joseph K. Chan will be retiring in 2008, after 24 years serving as finance director of the Association of Bay Area Governments. After retirement, he is planning to offer pro bono management consulting services to non-profit and charitable organizations.

Class of 1974

  • Linda Mertz was just recognized by The Business Journal of Milwaukee at the “Women of Influence Luncheon.” Over 800 attended the luncheon at which the award was presented.

Class of 1977

  • Lois Hammes Partridge (BBA 1950, MBA 1952, PhD 1977) retired in the ‘90’s and has since been treasurer of many groups in Davis, Calif. Since last year, Lois has been the president of the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute at UCDavis Extension. Last spring the Institute was awarded a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation.

Class of 1978

  • Michael Sack Elmaleh has authored “Financial Accounting: A Mercifully Brief Introduction.” The book is available on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. He has also developed an educational web site www.understand-accounting.net.
  • Linda Benz is a professor of accounting in the Kentucky Community and Technical College system. She is currently serving as the chair of the Members Committee of the Kentucky Society of CPAs.
  • Jonathan E Strouse is a litigation partner at Holland & Knight LLP in Chicago. After getting his CPA, he went on to get his law degree at UW-Madison. Jonathan has two children and lives in the Chicago suburbs. He specializes in federal tax litigation throughout the country.

Class of 1980

  • Alan S. Ferguson is finishing his second (fiction) book on his wonderful memories of the UW. Both books are under his pen name, Stephan Summers.

Class of 1982

  • Denise Wong has a new position at Walgreens as corporate vice president and CIO, since May 2007.
  • Joseph R. Katcha is the founder and managing partner of High Street Capital, a private equity firm in Chicago. The firm manages over $100M in private equity resources to invest in middle market businesses. High Street Capital has been in business since 1997 and is celebrating its 10- year anniversary. High Street Capital will soon be raising its fourth investment fund to focus on the same market.
  • Prin Bholnivas is the chief financial officer at Srithai Superware Public Company Limited in Thailand.

Class of 1983

  • Erbert Johnson, CPA, has been appointed senior VP in the Public Finance group of KeyBanc Capital Markets in Cleveland, Ohio. He will be responsible for advising school districts in Ohio and nationally on raising capital through bond offerings for facility expansion and ongoing operations. Johnson came to Cleveland in 1999 following four years as director of finance for the Milwaukee Public Schools. For 10 years prior to taking that post, he held positions of increasing responsibility in financial services, after beginning his career at KPMG Peat Marwick, where he was a senior auditor. He serves as trustee for the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center, is a past chairman of the Milwaukee Public Debt Commission and has been active in other community service boards, including serving as a loaned executive for the United Way.
  • David C. Miller accepted a new job as finance director at Evan-Moor Educational Publishers in June of this year and has relocated to Monterey, Calif.
  • Anne C. Hoff, CPA, returned to public accounting six years ago after devoting most of her earlier years raising three children and caring for aging parents, while working part-time. Last year Anne was promoted to senior tax manager at Kleinhans, Lashbrook & Butler, PLLC in Tucson, Arizona.

Class of 1987

  • Paul F. Fahey, CPA, has been working at Lesaffre Yeast Corporation in Milwaukee, Wis., as manager of Compliance and Administration since 2002. David Conrardy is vice president of Marc Realty, LLC, a real estate property management company in Chicago, Ill. He specializes in insurance issues and real estate taxes. David is married to Lan Gao Conrardy and has enjoyed traveling to China.

Class of 1989

  • Don Cotey was a practice leader for Andersen Consulting in Milwaukee and Chicago after graduation from UW-Madison until 1998. For the past nine years, Don has held several leadership positions with IBM Corporation. Don is currently the chief strategist for IBM Global Business Partners working out of IBM’s New York Worldwide Headquarters. Don is married to Christine (10 years) and has two beautiful children, Don III (Trey) - 3 years old and Emily - 8 months old. Don is also a member of the Milwaukee Porsche Club.
  • Beth (Benoy) Van Schoyck was promoted to director of Financial Planning and Reporting for the Convenient Meals Sector of Kraft Foods North America in Madison.
  • Debra (Arnold) Gahr received her Masters degree in Business Education from UW-Whitewater in May 2007. She is now teaching at Waukesha County Technical College.

Class of 1990

  • Marc Schnoll has owned and operated Sexton & Schnoll since 2004. Sexton & Schnoll is a Gainesville, Fla. – based CPA firm. They have enjoyed strong growth, and are looking at expansion opportunities.
  • Robert (Bob) J. Cottingham was promoted to partner at Wipfli LLP in Madison on June 1, 2007.
  • Stephan Bauman is the senior vice president of the Program for World Relief, where he overseas approximately 3,000 staff in 20 nations. Stephan joined World Relief in 2005 as the country director in Rwanda. Prior to joining World Relief Rwanda, Stephan served as director of International Programs for World Hope International. From 1994 to 2001, Stephan worked for Mercy Ships International as director of programs and director of training. Prior to joining Mercy Ships, Stephan worked in the private sector for Anderson & Co. Stephan is a Certified Public Accountant (since 1990), an ordained minister, and holds a Masters in International Development (Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies), a Masters in Intercultural Studies, with an emphasis on theology and development (Wheaton College Graduate School), as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Business (Accounting and Finance) (UW-Madison). Stephan is married to Belinda, and has two sons, Joshua, age 7, and Caleb, age 5.

Class of 1991

  • Carver Smith, CPA, SPHR, is the vice president at Wegner and Associates. In addition to his day job, Carver re-united and re-named a band he was in just after graduating from UW. Now named “Roshambo,” the band includes other UW-Madison graduates including a partner from Virchow Krause and the CFO of the Milwaukee Brewers. Roshambo plays private parties and festivals in the Milwaukee and Chicago area, including a recent show at Summerfest!
  • Lisa Lindert Wozniak was recently promoted to senior manager of Financial Accounting at Covance Laboratories in Madison, Wis. She joined Covance in September 2005. Lisa’s role includes general ledger oversight and the addition of revenue recognition responsibilities. Lisa and her husband John have two children, Anna - 6 and Patrick - 4.
  • Henry P. (Hank) Karius was promoted to vice president - corporate taxation of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. earlier this year. He is in charge of the North America Tax Department for the French-based international waste services company. He works out of a corporate office in Milwaukee, Wis.

Class of 1992

  • Nick Voegeli, CPA, served a four and a half year appointment as Wisconsin’s deputy state treasurer, and then went into business for himself four years ago, working out of his home. Nick and his wife, Jane (Dauska) Voegeli, (BFA, ’91, MFA, ’93) added two children this year to their family (now seven children), the first an adopted three-year-old boy from Guatemala, and the second, a baby girl of their own. Nick ran last year as a GOP candidate for lieutenant governor, earning 44.5% of the primary vote. He had previously served two terms as an alderman for the City of Sun Prairie, chairing the city’s Finance Committee. Nick recently retired from the Naval Reserve after 20 years, having served as a counter-terrorism and special warfare intelligence officer.
  • Dave Evert married Carol Elmer in Las Vegas on July 7, 2007.
  • Philip Crawford has recently launched an email marketing software and strategy company. It is on the web at: www.writesendtrack.com/.

Class of 1994

  • Alice (Lin) Ferris has launched GoalBusters, a consulting firm for nonprofit management and fundraising. Specialties include fundraising campaign direction, strategic planning, sales and marketing training, interim management services, executive coaching, and board development.

Class of 1995

  • Michelle C. Hanks, CPA, will be a member of DeBoer Baumann & Co, PLC effective January 1, 2008.
  • Corinne (Turnock) Angotti has accepted a new job as senior manager global internal audit at S.C. Johnson. She will be leaving her current position as assistant director accounting operations at Northwestern Mutual.

Class of 1996

  • Carlos Duchicela is married to Glenda, and has a daughter, Shylah and a son, Carlosluis. Since leaving Wisconsin, Carlos has been working for Reybanpac, Rey Banano del Pacifico, a banana producer and exporter. If you are in Europe, look for the Favorita or Dulcita brands (coming soon to America!)
  • Jason Root and his wife, Meredyth Root (a UW alumna), recently had their first child –a little boy, Sasha Cole Root. Jason and his family live in New York City. Jason has been working for a year at a small New York City investment firm, Epoch Investment Partners. He is running the Performance Analytics department, assisting portfolio managers in quantifying the portfolio results for internal and external clients. Jason also recently passed and completed the CIPM (Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement) exam and plans to continue his professional studies.

Class of 1997

  • Jon Kaull was married to Katie O’Brien (BA ‘98) on July 29, 2006. He is employed by Pizza Hut of Southern Wisconsin as the corporate controller. He is enrolled in the Wisconsin Evening MBA program at UW-Madison with an expected graduation in July of 2009.

Class of 1998

  • Michelle Ibeling has opened her own law firm, Ibeling Hafemeyer, Ltd., in Faribault, Minn. The firm focuses on family law, bankruptcy, and wills and probate.

Class of 1999

  • Mike Bellin became engaged to Felicia Prade in April 2007 while visiting Thailand.
  • Christopher Bouda was named the life sciences controller of GE Healthcare, a $1.3 billion business that is part of GE Healthcare.
  • Abby (Davidson) Summers is now married to another UW-Madison alum – Andy Summers, who graduated in 1998 from the Applied Security Analysis program. They had a little boy in early August, named Andrew Davidson Summers, and live in Denver, Colo. Abby works part-time as an adjunct at the University of Denver and Andy started a hedge fund several years ago.
  • Todd Carlson was married in 2003 and has two children (Brianna – 3.5 and Ava -2). Todd is an international tax manager, Asia-Pacific and Latin America at JohnsonDiversey, Inc. in Sturtevant, Wis.

Class of 2000

  • Craig Schedler recently accepted a new position as chief operating officer – private equity at B.C. Ziegler. In his new role, Craig oversees all fund accounting and fund operations functions.
  • Brett Killion currently teaches Business Education at Luxemburg-Casco High School and is the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach. He is engaged to be married in July 2008.
  • Travis Mattson was recently promoted (July 2007) to senior manager – audit in the Minneapolis office of KPMG.

Class of 2001

  • Joe LaDuke is engaged to be married on May 31, 2008. He left public accounting in July to work as the controller at a small fast-growing marketing company located in downtown Chicago. Previously, Joe worked as a public accountant/auditor at a small local Chicago firm. He also passed the CFE exam back in the spring of 2007 and the CPA exam in the spring of 2002.
  • Julie Karg works at The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., as the financial reporting manager, overseeing the accounting for two Theme Parks, three Hotels and Downtown Disney. In addition, she is the Disneyland lead accounting contact for recruiting at California State University, Fullerton and the vice president of the UW-Madison Alumni Chapter in Orange County. Julie and her husband, Mike, celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary in August, and will soon be moving into a new home in Orange, Calif.
  • Karen (Zehms) Scheppelmann began her career in the KPMG New York office and is now a manager at KPMG in the Denver, Colo. office.

Class of 2002

  • Matt Sullivan has recently been promoted to audit and assurance manager at Deloitte. He is married to Sarah Sullivan (IMAcc graduate 2003).

Class of 2003

  • Sarah (Knorr) Sullivan has recently been promoted to multistate tax manager at Deloitte. She is married to Matt Sullivan (IMAcc graduate 2002).

Class of 2004

  • Andrew Petri and Melissa (Thiel) Petri both graduated from the IMACC Program. They were married on September 2, 2007.
  • Michelle Christensen, CPA, is currently employed at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Los Angeles, Calif. She has been at PwC for two years, and has lived in Marina Del Ray, Calif. with her fiancé, Adam Resnick (also a Badger!) for three years. Adam is a researcher at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica. They are enjoying their lives in California and are working on planning their wedding.
  • Michelle (Parnau) Goetsch works as an internal auditor at SC Johnson. She was recently married in 2006.

Class of 2005

  • Diane (Gilberti) Winters moved to Winter Springs, Fla., (Orlando area) after receiving her MAcc degree, where she started in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers. After approximately two years, Diane switched jobs and now works for Robert W. Baird in Orlando. She was married in September 2006.
  • Brett George and Kristin Cerbins (JBA May 2006) were married on August 17, 2007 in Green Lake, Wis. Brett is an associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Milwaukee and Kristin is an assistant event planner in the Corporate Events department of Robert W. Baird in Milwaukee.

Class of 2006

  • Adam Chrudimsky has officially become a licensed CPA since graduation.
