WorldCom Whistleblower Will Present at Wisconsin School of Business Ethics and Professionalism Symposium on May 1
Cynthia Cooper, famed WorldCom whistleblower and author of “Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower,” will speak at an Ethics and Professionalism Symposium hosted by the Wisconsin School of Business on May 1 at Morgridge Auditorium in Grainger Hall.
Cooper, former vice president of internal audit at WorldCom, is best known for her 2002 report exposing one of the largest frauds in U. S. corporate history. In June of 2002, after Cooper discovered WorldCom, now known as MCI, had turned a $662 million loss into a $2.4 billion profit, she stuck by her ethical values and went public with the information. After sustaining several investigations and guiding the company out of bankruptcy, Cooper left WorldCom in 2004. Cooper, who was named Time’s 2002 Person of the Year, now owns her own consulting business. Her book, “Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower,” is the retelling of her story.
Cooper will speak at a public session from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. on May 1 in Grainger Hall as part of the Ethics and Professionalism Symposium. A reception and book signing will follow for all attendees.
