Thought Leaders Create an Impact
- Professor Margie Rosenberg participated in a collaborative effort to develop a model to predict incidence and mortality of women with breast cancer in Wisconsin.
- Professor Rosenberg, as a member of a team of women's health researchers, helped develop the Center of Excellence in Women’s Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also served as the statistician who evaluated the climate in the University of Wisconsin Medical School.
- Professor Dan Anderson pioneered the academic discipline of of sustainability risk management. He co-founded the Center for Business, Environment & Social Responsibility (BESR) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
- Professor Joan Schmit's research on law and economics related to insurability and safety has informed both insurance companies and government.
Thought Leaders Share Their Expertise with Business and Government
- Professor Anderson has testified in front of numerous federal and state congressional committees regarding environmental issues, such as atomic energy.
- Professor Mark Browne testified before the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on the future of the National Flood Insurance Program.
- Professor Browne serves as an expert witness in complex tort cases; he calculates damages and successfully defends his estimates.
- Professor Edward W. (Jed) Frees served as an actuarial representative to the Social Security Advisory Board's Technical Panel on Methods and Assumptions.
Thought Leaders Advance Their Professional Disciplines
- ASRMI faculty are active members of of professional societies that advance the disciplines of actuarial science, risk management and insurance.
- Faculty members have published their research in more than 90 different academic and professional journals. The wide-range impact of faculty's research has increased professional opportunities for those with a degree in actuarial science, risk management and insurance.
- The Wisconsin School of Business' ASRMI Program hosts a speaker series, giving thought leaders an opportunity to share their knowledge.
Thought Leaders Serve as Teachers and Mentors
- More than 200 students are pursing a major in Actuarial Science or Risk Management and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business. Faculty teach courses, advise students outside of the classroom, and provide leadership to student clubs.
- Our faculty have received numerous university-wide and nation-wide awards for teaching excellence.
- Professor Rosenberg received the Doris Slesinger Award for Excellence in Mentoring.
